Louth Peace & Reconciliation Partnership’s

‘Shared Heritage & Myths’

WELCOME!

The ‘Shared Heritage & Myths’ project will focus on harnessing the wisdom of Louth’s significant heritage and mythology, to promote increased understanding of our common heritage as a means of building a peaceful future. This exciting PEACE III project aims to build reconciliation through three separate but intertwined pillars:

Music, Storytelling & Creative Arts: explore the musical, instrumental, singing and artistic heritage of Louth and its neighbours, through shared storytelling, music and art workshops, sessions and pure enjoyment!
Landscape & Archaeology: Throughout November 2009, 98 people joined us to explore the landscape, territories and archaeological heritage of Louth and its borderlands through workshops and guided walks, with particular reference to the saga of the Táin Bó Cuailnge and its expression in the modern lansdcape; we hope to repeat some events in 2010. Watch this space!
Domestic Arts or ’Arts of the Hearth’
:
women have been cooking, growing and crafting for centuries—these domestic arts will be explored by engaging older women in the telling of how they cooked, baked, grew, knit, crocheted and passed on this heritage from generation to generation, common across all communities.

Music, food, recollections and perhaps the odd song!

We will engage through innovative workshops, field trips and celebratory events to capture, chronicle and ultimately share understanding of common heritage.  The team particularly welcomes young people to engage with an innovative celebratory festival
of Louth’s shared heritage and myths, with the first event planned for Hallowe’en 2010.

The “Shared Heritage & Myths" project is supported by the European Union’s PEACE III Programme,
as awarded by Louth Peace and Reconciliation Partnership.
